New technology can help transform the lives of people with sight loss, making everyday tasks much easier to perform. That's why we want to make sure as many local visually impaired people as possible have the chance to learn how to use technology, which is the reason we've extended our IT support services to include new drop-in sessions from our Pop-Up support centre conveniently located in Victoria Centre market.
IT training will be delivered by our visually impaired Technology Officer and his volunteers who have a wealth of experience in providing IT support to visually impaired people of all abilities and of none! The pop-up support centre offers a convenient venue right on the high street in Nottingham city centre where people can come and learn in the privacy of our self-contained unit. The unit has been fitted with the latest wall-mounted large monitors, while the arm bracket enables the screens to be moved closer or further away from the user, making the screen easily accessible for people with visual impairments. The keyboards and mouse’s are operated by Bluetooth for extra convenience and our computers are being fitted with the latest software tailored to meet the needs of people with sight loss.
Our new IT drop-in sessions are held on Monday afternoons and Wednesday afternoons, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm and are open to anyone with a vision impairment regardless of ability and experience, but we are limited to three workstations so please call us in advance to check availability to avoid disappointment.
In addition to our sessions in the Victoria Centre Nottingham, we can also provide home-based IT support and we are currently drawing up plans to deliver technology sessions through our social groups, which meet at the Bircover Community Centre, Nottingham, the St Peter's Centre in Mansfield and the Knight’s Court in Newark.
If you or someone you know has a visual impairment and would like to learn more about smart phones, digital tablets, laptops, desktops and how to get the most out of the internet and the latest access software, please contact us on 0115 9706 806 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
