Equipment in the Community

Bringing Support Services to You

From 1 October 2017 we will be making changes to the way our Equipment in the Community Service is delivered. These changes will help to reduce waiting times for appointments in our most popular venues and enable us to target our resources more effectively so that we can reach out to greater numbers of blind and partially sighted people.

Changes are being introduced following a review of current services, which showed that over the last 12 months, 50 per cent of the venues Sarah visited were being accessed by no visually impaired people at all or by less than 3 people in a 12 month period. This is obviously not a good use of our resources when other venues are so well attended that there is a long waiting time for an appointment.

As a result we have decided to visit our 10 most popular venues over a two month period instead of the current 27 venues.

Visits to our best attended venues will take place on a Monday and Tuesday morning between 10am and 12pm apart from My Sight Mansfield which will be the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Venues we will be visiting every month include: My Sight Bassetlaw at Bassetlaw CVS, My Sight Mansfield at the St Peter’s Centre, My Sight Newark at Knight’s Court, Queen’s Medical Centre, Kings Mill Hospital and the Mary Potter Centre in Hyson Green.

Venues that will be visited every two months include: Radcliffe on Trent Library, West Bridgford Library, Bulwell Riverside and Arnold Library.

In very exceptional cases we will also make a home visit for equipment advice. Requests for home visits will be assessed on a case-by-case basis against the following criteria:

1)      People who have difficulties getting out and about or accessing community services due to ill health or frailty.

2)      People who do not have a public transport service into our venues.

3)      People who have carer commitments and who, for example are caring for a relative with dementia.

If you’re unsure whether or not you or your relative will meet the eligibility criteria for a home visit, please contact Sarah on 0115 9706 806 who will be able to discuss this with you. There will be a small charge of £5 for home visits.
