Nottingham’s choir for blind and deaf blind singers joins forces with Liverpool’s visually impaired choir as part of celebrations for National Eye Health Week 24-28 September.
 Liverpool Inspirational Voices choir
The Liverpool Inspirational Voices choir is visiting My Sight Nottinghamshire this Friday 28 September as part of an inspirational musical exchange aimed at inspiring visually impaired people to express themselves through song.
The 15-strong choir from Liverpool’s sight loss charity, Bradbury Fields, will travel to Nottingham tomorrow to sing with My Sight Nottinghamshire’s choir of visually impaired and dual sensory impaired singers, which was set up in 2015 and has been inspiring local audiences every since.
Only three choirs for visually impaired people in the UK
Jeanne Roberts, Arts Development Officer at My Sight Notts, said: “We believe there are only three choirs for visually impaired people in the UK, so we’re all really excited to be joining forces with the Bradbury Fields choir and its musical Director, Timothy Taylor for a day of music fun and food! We then plan to pay a visit to Liverpool in the spring to sing with our friends from Bradbury Fields.
“Social isolation and community exclusion is something that many visually impaired people tell us they experience. Since launching our choir in Nottingham four years ago, we’ve seen many of our singers grow in confidence as they benefit from the joyful experience of singing with new friends as part of a group.”
Choir makes me feel happy
Choir member, Carole Bowles from Ruddington said: “I have a number of physical disabilities as well as a visual impairment and hearing loss and sometimes I feel that I’m living with the cares of the world. Getting out of the house and singing with the choir makes me feel really good because for a few precious hours a week I’m surrounded by people who encourage me to have a go and focus on what I can achieve and not what I can’t.”
