We have had notice that from 7th September, the main entrance at Queens Medical Centre is having a major refurbishment. They have released the following information:
A refurbishment of the main entrance of the Queen’s Medical Centre will soon be underway after NUH secured £3.7million government funding for essential works.
The project is vital to re-waterproof the ground below the road surface to prevent leaks and damage to our ED, which sits below it. Work also needs to be undertaken to strengthen the two bridges leading to the main entrance as they cannot be used by heavy vehicles.
While these works are taking place, the Trust is going to refresh the main entrance, adding a redesigned car park, new drop-off spaces, a refurbished canopy cover for pedestrians, new secure bicycle storage, and a new entrance lobby.
This project – funded by the government’s Estates Safety Fund, which supports backlog maintenance – is particularly well timed as we celebrate our 20th anniversary as NUH NHS Trust.
Work is due to start on Monday 7 September and is expected to last until Spring 2027.
We are doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum, and we apologise for any inconvenience this causes for our staff, patients and visitors.
During the work being carried out, access to our QMC Main Entrance will be for patient and visitor drop-off only, and there will be a one-way traffic flow. Patient transport ambulances and emergency ambulances will be permitted to stop outside Main Entrance, but are asked to drop off and collect patients as quickly as possible.
In addition, there will be no Blue Badge parking provision while these works are carried out. Blue Badge users will need to use an alternative car park. Where possible, patients and visitors should try to arrive at hospital via taxi or public transport.
There will be six spaces for on-call consultant parking only.
During the later weeks of this project when the new entrance lobby is being constructed, pedestrians will be asked to use other entrances, or the Macmillan entrance, which will be signposted. The Medilink will not stop at the main entrance during this time.
We will share further updates as the project progresses to ensure colleagues are kept updated and can provide advice to patients and the public accordingly.
