If you’re looking for unique and interesting events to visit over the Easter and May Day holidays,  please come along to our FREE art exhibition at The Spotlight Gallery, Newark Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery which runs from 17 April until 18 May.

Works of art by blind and partially sighted people

All the fabulous works of art on display have been individually handcrafted and produced by blind and partially sighted people living in the Newark area and the pieces on display will open your eyes to a new way of seeing the world around you.

The exhibition is free to enter and is open from 10:30am until 3:30pm between 17 April and 18 May.

I can’t believe what I’ve achieved!

Carol Hiscock, one of the registered blind artists whose work is on display said: “I lost my eye sight suddenly and unexpectedly on a night out with friends, it was the most frightening thing that has ever happened to me. Immediately my world shrank as the outside world became a frightening place. My Sight Newark and the art workshops that take place there really saved my life by opening up my world again to new possibilities. I had never painted anything in my life when I could actually see – other than the skirting board – and now that I’m registered blind I’ve painted a canvas that will be in a public art exhibition in my home town; how absolutely bonkers and also incredibly wonderful  is that!

“We really hope people will come and look at our art and see for themselves just what blind and partially sighted people can do with the right support.”
