Below is a special appeal from our CEO, Michael Conroy
Dear Supporter,
Each year, thousands of people at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) learn that their sight loss is permanent. It can be a challenging time, filled with uncertainty and change – but with the right support, no one has to face it alone.
At this point of crisis, one person can make all the difference: an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO). ECLOs provide calm, compassionate support. They take the time to explain what the diagnosis means, guide patients to emotional support and services that keep them safe and independent; offering hope when it feels like everything has been lost.
Right now, NUH has only one ECLO for more than 144,000 appointments. Many people simply do not get the support they need at the time they need it most.
The NUH ECLO is funded from My Sight Notts’ reserves, however, due to current financial pressures this role could be put at risk unless alternative funding is secured.
Here’s how you can help:
• It costs just £80 to fund half a day of ECLO support.
• In that time, an ECLO can sit with up to a dozen patients, listening, reassuring
and connecting them to vital services.
• That’s around £7 per patient for life-changing support.
With a gift of just £80, you could help us to secure the continued role of the ECLO and ensure that no patient has to face sight loss alone.
Please will you help today? Together we can give patients hope, strength and independence at the very moment they need it most.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
With warm regards,
Michael Conroy, CEO My Sight Notts
