Go the extra mile – volunteer driver

Would you like to put your driving skills to good use by helping isolated blind and partially sighted people get out and about in your area?

If you have a little time and talent to spare, put them to good use by helping others and you’ll soon reap the rewards of a job well done and new friendships made.

Recruiting volunteer drivers

Local charity, My Sight Notts needs Volunteer Drivers to take isolated visually impaired people who are unable to drive themselves out and about to enjoy its social groups, choir, sports clubs and other activities.
Full training is provided and reasonable expenses will be met.
If you’re aged between 25-70 and you have a full clean driving licence you can drive the charity’s vehicles or, if you prefer your own set of wheels or you’re aged under 25 or over 70 you can opt to drive your own vehicle and we’ll pay expenses.

Volunteer drivers make all the difference

“I love My Sight’s art groups and singing in the choir, they improve my mental health, increase my confidence and reduce the isolation I sometimes feel,” said Kay Dear who is registered blind from Radford. “Volunteer drivers are a massive help, they provide a much needed transport service, while helping others along the way.

A little effort makes a big difference to local blind people

John Crampton, one of the charity’s Volunteer Drivers, said: “Not being able to drive is a huge barrier for blind and partially sighted people and if I can help remove that barrier and help them get more out of life by donating a few hours of my free time, then I’m happy to do it. I get a lot of enjoyment from my work. The people are friendly, the charity is supportive and I enjoy a natter with the people I’m driving. It’s great to know a small effort on my part makes a big difference to people in my area.”
