Help prevent glaucoma
Arunas has glaucoma, which is why he’s talking to his boys to make sure they have regular sight tests.
I put off having a sight test
Arunas said: “Like too many people I put off having a sight test. I was too busy at work, there never seemed enough time and anyway I didn’t have significant symptoms that rang alarm bells.
I paid a high price for delaying
“Some days my sight seemed a bit worse, but I just ignored it because the changes were so slight it was too easy to dismiss until it was too late. I paid a high price for my decision to delay having a sight test. By the time I was diagnosed with glaucoma it was too late to save my sight and now I’m registered blind. I can no longer drive, I’m struggling with work and my life has changed significantly.
I tell my sons to have sight tests
“My sons are aged 21 and 26 and I constantly remind them to take regular sight tests. Glaucoma runs in families and they know they are at a higher risk of developing the disease.
Book a test especially if glaucoma’s in your family
“I tell my boys not to make the same mistake I made and put off an eye test until it’s too late. Book a test with your optician, it’s painless and quick but it could save your sight. Please don’t take the risk especially if glaucoma is in your family.”
