A low vision assessment is a one-to-one appointment designed to help you make the most of your remaining sight. It is not a medical eye test. Instead, it focuses on understanding how your vision affects your daily life and finding practical ways to support you.
What happens during the assessment?
You will meet with one of our Sight Loss Advisors at our Heathcoat Street offices. They will talk with you about:
-
The activities you find difficult because of your sight
-
Your lighting at home and how it affects what you can see
-
Whether magnification or other low vision aids could help
You will also have the opportunity to try different aids and techniques so you can see what works best for you.
Eccentric Viewing Techniques (EVT)
If appropriate, we can discuss Eccentric Viewing Techniques (EVT). This is a way of using areas of your vision outside the centre to help with reading and seeing more clearly. We can provide a teaching session to help you learn and practise this skill for everyday tasks.
