With regret, we have decided to temporarily suspend new referrals for our My Guide and befriending services due to a lack of volunteers. This will enable us to focus all our efforts on recruiting and training volunteers for the visually impaired people currently on our waiting list.
As the winter months approach and the nights draw in our My Guide and befriending services are busier than ever and we are eager to hear from potential new My Guide and Befriending volunteers able to offer an hour or so each week to support a visually impaired person in their local area. Full training is provided and all reasonable expenses are met.
Anita, Volunteer Coordinator, said: “The measure is a temporary one and will be reviewed every couple of months. We will of course continue to make referrals to other local agencies offering suitable befriending services where appropriate and explore all opportunities for recruiting new volunteers.”
